Just a follow-up to Stephanie’s note yesterday about the change of date for our Annual General Meeting.  While we know that Sunday March 11 is the beginning of March break, we did not want to put the meeting off any longer than that.  As I mentioned on Sunday morning, our former bookkeeper quit quite suddenly at the beginning of January, having not completed the year end statements.  The Finance Committee has hired a new bookkeeper, and has been working very hard to get all of the financial records to him.

We received a draft of our year end statements late yesterday, and the Finance Committee will be reviewing them at its meeting next Tuesday morning.  Once it has been established that they are complete and accurate, they will be available to you to review prior to March 11.  We will also be able to draft a budget for 2018.

Our apologies for the change of date, but there are some significant decisions that we have to make, and it is important that you have current, reliable financial information to make them.  One of those decisions will be whether or not we should be increasing Rev. Keith’s hours from 20 to 30 per week.  In the short time that he has been with us, he and his family have become an integral part of our Wesley family, and he has brought many innovative practices to our worship experiences.  The short answer is, to bring Rev. Keith to  30 hours per week, would add around $15,000 to our budget.  Translated into individual givings, each of us would have to increase our givings by 8%.  Not really very much.  That is $8 per $100.  I believe that this is doable.  From my perspective, and shared by others, it has been wonderful to have continuity in worship and to have stability in our pastoral care and our outreach through weddings and baptisms.  If you have questions, or would like to talk further about this, please speak to Doug Coghlin, Chair of Ministry and Personnel, or myself.

The AGM will be a pot luck.  You are invited to bring something to share, and to bring your own dishes and cutlery so that everyone can participate in the discussion.

Thank you for your understanding.
