This lovely warmer weather has almost melted the last of the ice on the pond across the road.  The geese have been patiently waiting for the open water and are busy honking away, claiming their spot.  Red winged blackbirds and grackles are back, and the robins have started singing earlier in the morning and later into the evening.  Our daffodils are bravely poking their heads out, as everything gears up for the renewal of spring.

The season of Lent, and the reflection it fosters, is almost over and we will be celebrating the resurrection and rebirth of Easter.  There will be a Maundy Thursday service at noon in the chapel, followed by Good Friday worship at St. Luke’s United Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning.  On Saturday, there will be an artisan market in Ainslie Hall in conjunction with our Apple Corps café.  There will be lots of handmade articles for sale, and the women from Ancora House will have their homemade jam.

Easter Sunday will begin at 9:00 a.m. with our annual Easter breakfast courtesy of our United Church Men.  The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.  It is always a delicious way to start the day.  This will be followed by our Easter communion service led by Rev. Keith.

On Sunday April 8, we will be receiving some new members into our Wesley family, so please plan to attend and give them a warm, Wesley welcome.

Thank you to those who have joined our Refugee Sponsorship and Membership Committees.  We are still looking for interested people to join our Mission and Outreach Committee.  Outreach is very important to us at Wesley and we would like to be more intentional about how we do it.  If you have an interest, or would like more information, please drop me a note or let Stephanie in the office know.

Wesley meets Hollywood.  So far this year, we have had two production companies rent space from us while they are filming in Cambridge.  Both the Handmaid’s Tale and Designated Survivor have used our facilities.  Their production managers have stated that they find our staff to be very welcoming and helpful, and that we are very cooperative in meeting their needs.  This is an excellent, and unexpected, revenue stream for us this year.  On occasion, if you are part of a group meeting at the church, you may be asked to move locations so that we can accommodate the large numbers of people that accompany these productions.  My thanks to those of you who have graciously done this.  We sincerely appreciate it.

Our April outreach will be for Lisaard House.  Lisaard House provides quality palliative care in a home-like setting for adults dying of cancer, while supporting the individual and their family through the end of life journey.  They believe that people have a right to die with dignity, free from pain, surrounded by their loved ones in a setting of their choice.  Their most needed items are:

Paper Towels, Kleenex, Hot Chocolate, Granola Bars, Microwave Popcorn, Liquid Hand Soap, Flexible Straws,

Batteries – AA, AAA, C, Cookies, Individual Cereal Packets.

I hope that each of you has a wonderful Easter.  We traditionally spend ours at our cottage, where I listen to Jesus Christ Superstar  on Good Friday and where we have communion on Easter Sunday on a bench overlooking the, still frozen, lake.  Wherever you are, may it be a joyous time.  Christ is risen, indeed.

Peace,

Anne Tinker
